Process

    The certification process

Transparent from the first enquiry to recertification. You always know what happens next and what we need from you.

    A two-stage assessment

Sertiva conducts certification audits in the two-stage process set out for management-system certification. Stage 1 establishes readiness; Stage 2 assesses whether the system is effective in practice.

    0. Initial consultation and proposal

We clarify the scope, sites, employee count and objectives. This determines the required audit time and your fixed price.

    • Free consultation
    • Proposal within 24 hours

    1. Stage 1: documentation and readiness

We review your management-system documentation, scope, internal audits and management review. You receive a written report identifying anything to resolve before Stage 2.

    • Usually 0.5–1 auditor day
    • Documentation, process overview and internal audit evidence required

    2. Clarification phase

You close the gaps identified in Stage 1. We state the requirement precisely but do not provide consultancy, preserving our impartiality.

    • Usually 2–6 weeks

    3. Stage 2: effectiveness assessment

Through sampling, interviews and evidence, we assess whether your management system is effective in real operations.

    • Usually 1–3 auditor days, depending on size

    4. Review and certification decision

The audit report is independently reviewed. A function separate from the auditor makes the certification decision. Corrective action is reviewed before a decision where needed.

    • Usually around two weeks

    5. Surveillance audits

The certificate is valid for three years. Reduced-scope surveillance audits in years two and three confirm continued effectiveness and improvement.

    6. Recertification

Before expiry, the complete system is reassessed with a view across the full cycle. A repeat Stage 1 is normally unnecessary.

    How long does it take?

For prepared organisations, the period from commissioning to certificate is typically two to four weeks. Auditor availability is usually the largest timing factor.
